Tell the person who complained that they need to be able to take a joke. Join in with the joke because everyone normally has a laugh together. Do not join in or encourage the comments and raise it with your Supervisor or Line Manager. Laugh along because the person being talked about has not complained. Ignore it because it is not directed at you. Repeat the comments to other colleagues as a joke.

3. A colleague keeps standing very close to another employee and touching them they appear uncomfortable. What should you do?

Join in with the physical joking. Assume it is harmless because nobody has complained. Laugh because the two colleagues probably know each other well. Do not encourage the behaviour. If you witness unwanted physical contact, raise the concern with your Supervisor or Line Manager.

4. A colleague asks you to stop making a comment or joke because they find it uncomfortable. What should you do?

Tell them everyone else thinks it is funny. Carry on because you think the joke is funny. Stop immediately and respect their request. Tell them they are overreacting.
