We have experience designing and engineering a range of commercial automotive systems for the home delivery market. We have been manufacturing home delivery systems since 2019 and have produced over 14,000 systems. From wiring harnesses to PDUs, we are equipped to produce any electrical assembly our partners require in small and large quantities. One of our current projects involves designing a fleet of wiring systems for a leading home delivery vehicle bodybuilder.
Developing our home delivery looms and assemblies
Working closely with partners to innovate new systems
When we start a new project, we kick-start our standard design process. Our engineers work closely with our partner to determine exactly what they need. In this project, our client–the renowned commercial automotive bodybuilder Solomon’s Commercials–required a modular system for ease and speed of installation, rather than having to hardwire everything manually, as is common in the industry. We specialise in creating looms and assemblies which can be installed into vehicles quickly and efficiently, saving our partners time and money.
Solomon’s builds the delivery vehicles for the majority of leading British supermarkets, including Sainsbury’s and Tesco. We’re a long-term partner to Solomon’s, so we had all the knowledge and expertise required to produce the designs quickly. If you see a home delivery vehicle with a Solomon’s brand on it, odds are Brucom designed and manufactured the electrical components inside it. In addition to wiring looms, we manufactured the Power Distribution Unit (PDU) for these delivery vehicles (including the PCB). We fitted the control components into a custom-designed plastic moulding, with bespoke Solomon-branded labelling to identify the fuses.
How we craft high-quality products efficiently
Once the designs are tested and signed off, we start our manufacturing process. First, our wire preparation team uses a mixture of semi-automated and fully automated tools to strip and prepare the wires that will be used in the harness. We are always investing in our automation capabilities, which is why we’ve just purchased and installed a new machine which helps us speed up this process.

Then, our skilled staff use our designs to build the wiring harnesses using pin boards. They carefully weave the wires together, ensuring wiring harnesses are correctly connected at the right points with the correct plugs or connectors. We’ve implemented roaming inspections throughout our production line, meaning we are always double-checking for mistakes or faults throughout the process, catching and correcting things early on to avoid delays later.
We then overmould our harnesses to ensure that they are fit for the harsh applications of the commercial automotive industry. Wear and tear, chemicals and water can all damage wiring harnesses and assemblies, making them more likely to fail or require replacement. By using our low-pressure, low-temperature overmoulding service, we can protect these harnesses, making sure they last longer and perform better.

Once the harness is finished, we send it over to be inspected by our dedicated testing department. All our wiring harnesses undergo thorough testing before we despatch them to our clients. We test a range of things, including electrical compliance, functionality, measuring wire length and more. When a harness passes all of our tests, it’s labelled and ready for despatch.
Which types of home delivery looms do we manufacture?
For this project, we manufactured several looms that perform vital functions in the vehicle. Two examples are:
Anderson loom
This loom - named after the Anderson Plugpole that it uses - transfers electrical power from a main or auxiliary vehicle battery to a remote plug point.
Body loom
The Body Loom supplies power to the internal lights, rear door lock, and the sensors to warn of unsecured or opened compartments. The sensors then trigger an audio-visual warning in the cab to alert the driver if anything is left open.
Crafting modular looms that are easy to install
Where possible, we design and craft our looms to be modular plug-and-play systems, so that our partners can quickly and easily install the loom into their vehicle. Our looms and assemblies plug into existing systems, meaning very little additional work or installation is needed. This allows our partners to build and construct their vehicles faster.
Modular systems also help to ensure that finding and fixing future faults is simple. Rather than having to replace the whole system (or indeed the whole vehicle), repairers would only need to replace one section of the electrical assembly where the fault was detected.
We also use the manufacturer-approved pick-up points to avoid any intrusion into the factory vehicle wiring. In most cases, this means the installer can plug in our wiring systems whilst still protecting the manufacturer warranty for the vehicle.
